Does anyone care...Obviously not!

Remember when the nice men and women who represent us in the Legislature told us the Stelly Plan would solve our problems? Yeah the same people who told us the Lottery, Video Poker and the Riverboats would solve our problems as well. Well they convinced enough voters to pass the Stelly Plan, otherwise known as the Stealing Plan. This utopian plan was supposed to remove 2% of the sales tax you pay on certain food and groceries, as well as utilities. In exchange for lower sales tax by 2%, everyone who pays state income tax had their tax rate double. The plan was flawed from the first. But the problem I have with the whole "SCHEME" is that 90-95% of grocery stores, convenience stores, etc. have not properly calibrated their registers to deduct 2% of the sales taxes. Next time you go to Wal-Mart look at the bottom of your receipt. You will notice you are still paying 8.5-9.5% sales taxes (depending on where you live). The sales tax consist of 4% state sales tax and then the rest is the city/local tax. Do you care that legislation passed by the boys and girls in Baton Rouge is not being enforced? Do you care that your state income tax rate doubled and you saved nothing...NOTHING on your grocery or utility bill? Obviously you don't care. Have you called your legislator? Have you spoken with the manager of the stores you shop? I have done both. Here is what I was told by a convenience store manager, "We do not have the money to have all of our cash registers refigured to where the register knows what items to roll back the 2% and what items are not eligible." So here was my next question...If the state does not charge 2% sales tax on certain foods anymore, what does he do with the 2% ??? Here was his response, "Well, um, you know...uuhhh...they still get that tax because we send it to them." So the state is still receiving money from a sales tax that a vote of the people removed over three years ago??? Does it surprise you in our corrupt, uneducated, poor state that no one cares about getting taken advantage of? Obviously not. Sorry I wasted your time.
