Job Qualifications

Since when did lying under oath disqualify a person from holding a political office? Some would say dishonesty is a job qualification required for being a politician. The newly "appointed" Senator from Illinois Mr. Roland Burris apparently perjured himself before the Illinois Supreme Court and the U.S. Senate. Burris initially said there was no discussion of him doing any favors in exchange for the appointment. But Burris now acknowledges he did discuss the vacant seat with Blagojevich's friends and allies. He claims he was asked to raise money for Blagojevich but couldn't find anyone willing to contribute. Go figure. So now his collegues in the Senate want him to resign. After all they have never lied or withheld the truth...Right?

That's how I feel about it. Is there a such thing as an honest politician? For the most part I was a Bush supporter, but you have to wonder what it takes to become president behind closed doors. I could be wrong, but it seems to me if you've made it to a position of power like congress or the presidency, you're probably a crook. I apologize to the honest politicians out there if you exist.
