The Cross

To many the cross is a symbol of death. The cross was the method of capital punishment in the 1st century. Just as the electric chair or guillotine are means of punishment so was the cross. But to a believer the cross is the symbol of HOPE. Upon an old wooden cross the Savior sacrificed His life to pay the penalty of our sins. He gave His life so that we may live. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus didn't deserve death. We don't deserve salvation. Praise God for His grace and mercy. Thank Him for the Cross. A Roman centurion who was at the Cross the day Christ was crucified said of Jesus, "Truly this was the Son of God." Matthew 27:54
